Wellness Exams and Vaccinations
Prevention is the key to keeping your pet healthy. Annual wellness examinations and vaccinations are the cornerstone of your pet's preventive health care plan.
Pet Express Mobile Vet provides complete wellness exams for your best friend. During an exam, Dr. Wright performs a "nose to tail" evaluation of your pet. As part of the examination, Dr. Wright:
- Examines your pet's breathing and heart rate.
- Evaluates your pet's vision and hearing.
- Palpate the abdomen for signs of tumors and growths.
- Check the joints and muscles for signs of stiffness or arthritis.
- Inspect your pet's skin and coat for symptoms of skin conditions, tumors and external parasites.
The wellness exam is used to establish your pet's baseline health. We may also ask you questions about your pet's behavior and lifestyle in order to better diagnose and treat your pet.
If your pet is ill or injured during normal business hours, we will make every effort to help you as soon as possible. If your pet's condition is critical or we are not in your service area, we will refer you to a clinic or emergency hospital in your area. Click here for emergency care information.
Microchip Identification
In a city as big as San Antonio, pet identification is a must! A sturdy collar and ID tag are a good start to identifying your pet, but they may not be enough. Microchipping your pet is a safe, simple way to permanently identify your pet. A microchip is about the size and shape of a grain of rice and is implanted beneath your pet's skin (usually between the shoulder blades) in a process similar to a vaccination. The microchip is encoded with unique information about your pet; this information is stored in a national pet registry. Veterinary hospitals and animal shelters across the country have scanners capable of detecting and reading these microchips.
If your pet is lost, his or her microchip is scanned and the information it contains is used to reunite you and your best friend. Pet Express Mobile Vet uses Home Again microchip system. Home Again maintains a nationally-recognized pet registry.
Pharmacy
We offer a full inventory of pharmaceuticals for your pet, including preventive medications and therapeutic products. You can purchase your pet's medication directly from us or arrange for easy home delivery of prescription refills through our online pharmacy.
Counseling
Do you need help preventing or curbing unwanted behavior in your pet? Are you looking for advice on the best diet for your pet? Dr. Wright provides counseling in a number of areas for your pet, including behavioral issues, dietary needs and other problems. Education is an integral part of pet ownership and Dr. Wright is always eager to answer any questions you may have.
Pet Dental Care
Regular dental care is an integral part of your pet's overall health. Clean teeth and a healthy mouth do more than just prevent "doggy breath" - a regular dental care program prevents periodontal disease, a common infection that can lead to other, more serious, health problems.
Whether your pet needs a routine dental cleaning or requires a tooth extraction, Pet Express Mobile Vet can help. We provide ultrasonic dental cleanings and polishings using state-of-the-art equipment. Dr. Wright can also show you how to care for your pet's teeth at home, an important step that further strengthens your pet's dental health.
Radiology
Pet Express Mobile Vet uses on-site digital x-ray (radiology) equipment to diagnose your pet. Our advanced digital radiology equipment provides high-quality x-rays, aiding in a quick diagnosis of many disorders. X-rays are useful in determining the size and location of bone fractures; detecting the signs of heart disease, and locating the presence of foreign bodies (toys, bones, etc.) in your pet's body, among other conditions.
Digital x-ray has many benefits for your pet. Because digital radiology equipment produces highly-detailed images, fewer x-rays are needed, resulting in less time on the x-ray table - and less stress - for your pet. Digital x-rays can be transmitted via email or saved to a disc, allowing for easier consultations with specialists. Pet Express Mobile Vet is proud to offer our clients this valuable service.
Laboratory Tests
Sometimes, physical examinations do not provide a complete diagnostic procedure. Laboratory tests, such as blood tests, urinalysis, fecal exams and other laboratory services, are used to help provide a full diagnostic picture of your pet's health. Pet Express Mobile Vet has its own an on-site laboratory for many tests. We also use an outside reference laboratory for some cases.
Referrals
If your pet requires more advanced diagnostics, such as ultrasound or endoscopy, Pet Express Mobile Vet will refer you to a local veterinary internal medicine specialist. We will guide you through the referral process and provide the specialist with all the information he or she needs about your pet.
Surgical Care
Pet Express Mobile Vet provides a full range of surgical procedures for your pet in our state-of-the-art surgical suite, including:
- Spays
- Neuters
- Biopsies
- Tumor Removals
- Wound Repair
If your pet requires a more complex surgical procedure, we may refer you to a surgical specialist in San Antonio or the Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine in College Station.
Euthanasia
This is one of the the most difficult decisions a person can make about their pet. We provide at-home euthanasia services. At-home euthanasia reduces the stress of the pet and the owner and gives the pet and the owner the chance to be together in a familiar, comfortable setting for the last time.
